Van chan was born in Kampong Thom, Cambodia. Like others Cambodians, she suffered the years of war and massacres perpetrated by the Khmer Rouge. She had to leave the School of Fine Arts to perform agricultural work under this regime. After the fall of Pol Pot’s regime, her husband was appointed for a high position in the Administration, but he was killed later. Today, she is a traditional dance teacher and take care of her three children alone.
