SOK, an orphan, lives with his cousin and his fiancée, NARY who farms in a fishing village in Cambodia. Prince RITHIVONG is crowned king in the Kingdom of Angkor, falls in love with NARY after falling off his horse. NARY is forced to marry the prince as his second wife, because her parents wish it. In compensation, SOK is assigned a post as a district governor. He is jailed because he refuses to be in this position and he secretly goes to the palace. Princess BOTUM makes a request of the king, who is her father, for SOK’s release. Prince RITHIVONG refuses his royal order and takes NARY away. The king’s soldiers hunt for the prince. Prince RITHIVONG asks NARY to be his first wife and he rapes her. The King kills prince RITHIVONG for not obeying his royal order. After being permitted to meet NARY, SOK discovers that NARY has already killed herself by taking poison. With much grief, he carries her body into the forest and disappears.
