Sangkum Reastr Niyum is created by Prince NORODOM SIHANOUK in 1955. Its purpose is to encourage women to have other roles beside the role of giving birth to babies, of preserving traditions, practising religion, and being good citizens. In addition to the role of spinning silk, the Sangkum Reastr Niyum regime offers opportunities to women to work in several sectors of society such as art, culture, sports, education, social work, military, politics, and research.
