In 1993, before the legislative election run by the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC), a group of rebel commandos appears in the village in which KEM and NIT, who are orphans, live. CHEYRITH, the great commander of the Khmer Rouge starts grows fond of NIT. MAN, who is a bodyguard of the Khmer Rouge captain, opens fire and kills an agent of UNTAC. Then they flee, because they are afraid of being captured by the government forces. KEM agrees to let his sister marry CHEYRITH. During their honey moon, MAN opens fire again on a Vietnamese fishing village and kills some villagers. CHEYRITH and MAN have a dispute because they have different political ideas. Then MAN kills CHEYRITH. Because NIT does not agree to marry him, MÂN almost kills her. But after a fight with KEM, MAN is seriously injured. Before his death, MAN confesses and accepts his mistakes and he leaves his position of commander for KEM. NIT makes her decision to return to live in her native village and begins a career in paediatric nursing and babysitting.
