Although the refugee camp known as Site 2 no longer exists, it held as many as 180,000 people in a four-mile area on the border of Thailand and Cambodia during the 1980s. This historic documentary follows the life of one Cambodia family in Site II. Narrated by the mother, it provides a glimpse into life as a displaced person. After having fled the Pol Pot regime, Rithy Panh, a 15 year old Cambodian finds refuge at the Mairut camp in Thailand, in 1979. Ten years later, now a filmmaker, he returns to the camps to film the daily life of this threatened people. The people he meets, eaten away by inactivity, insecurity and fear of being forgotten, have been waiting for a possible return to Cambodia.
