Princess Botum is a daughter of the King of Kampuchea and lives with her husband in Annam. The Emperor of Annam has said that the marriage between their son and daughter of the King of Cambodia is an excellent decision regarding inter-ethnic relations Annam-Kampuchea. Meanwhile, the Empress of Annam, hates her daughter-in law because she is Khmer and forces her son to take a second wife. Princess Botum tries to escape with her brother and her young son but being caught by soldiers of the Imperial Guard Annamite they return to the palace.
