During a reportage in Africa, the well-known reporter Hugo meets the doctor Louis, whom he met 25 years ago in Cambodia. Louis is seriously injured on a humanitarian mission. Before his death, he entrusts Hugo a burdensome secret. Hugo promises the dying man a wish to fulfill and embarks on a long initiation journey to Cambodia.
