Angelina Jolie, First They Killed My Father director, producer and co-screenwriter and Loung Ung, co-screenwriter and executive producer, whose memoir is the adaptation of the film accepted the “Rising Star” Award on behalf of the young actress Sreymoch Sareum, who portraits “Loung” in the movie. The award acceptance was held during the special screening of the film on October 30 at the Arclight Culver City, Los Angeles.

Sareum plays the principle character, Loung in First They Killed My Father, which currently has been selected for the Cambodia’s Oscar submission for Best Foreign Language Film. This movie is produced based on the personal memoir of Cambodian author and human rights activist Ung about the deadly regime of Khmer Rouge from 1975 to 1978. The whole story is told through the eye of young Ung from the age of five when the Khmer Rouge occupied the country to the age of nine. The film is co-produced by Angelina Jolie and renown Cambodian director and producer Rithy Panh.
